Facing our fears can be terrifying; often rendering us unable to move forward, like obstacles that aren’t visible to everyone.

My husband Mark is having to travel a challenging and difficult path that he must take in his cancer treatment regime.  He has relapsed Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and following the ICE chemotherapy regimen he now finds himself in protective isolation undergoing BEAM chemotherapy to destroy his bone marrow and wipe out his blood cells. At the end of this chemotherapy he will be neutropenic with no immune system.

Mark has been immensely brave throughout this process. Despite everything he has had to face and the invasive procedures along the way, he has faced everything head on.

The anxiety induced by the claustrophobia of his hospital room would be enough to send most of us over the edge. Yet, here he is on day two of his treatment and he is so positive about the present and future stages of his journey.

This morning he posted an update in the Facebook group cancer stories  (https://www.facebook.com/groups/1595998743956536/?ref=bookmarks)

that he had been walking on the beach with our dog, and how she was enjoying the game of fetch with the ball. Our friends and family joined in, adding to the image and letting him know they were by his side.

These escapes from the room help him through the journey and detract from what many could see as a negative experience. The power of positive thinking!!
